Shadow theater

Shadow theater / Storytelling

Making improvised shadow theater figures from recyclable materials and storytelling by the children themselves; learning through experiential education and cultivating spontaneous expression through creativity, collaboration and improvisation.

Learning the skill of storytelling. Structure, character sketches, plot twists and characteristics of the protagonists.

Developing skills on how to realize ideas and create images.

 

The workshop lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes

First part (45 minutes): Choice of a theme from the ancient mythology of Crete. Guidance for the construction of the shadow figures. Information and training for the realization of the performance (teaching storytelling techniques and how to manipulate shadow theater figures)

Second part (45 minutes): Each group presents its performance.

In the end, the children can keep the shadow figures they created.

In this workshop, children can engage in fantastic practices like acrobatics, tightrope walking, unicycle, stilts and balancing games.

The physical benefits for children include flexibility and physical strength.

The children will develop essential life skills, expand their imaginations, and strengthen their self-confidence and self esteem.

The pedagogical circus gives children the opportunity to get to know their bodies, their imaginations and their potential in a fun and creative way.

It is a non-formal learning tool that promotes collaboration, respect, non-competition and trust within a team.

Aerial Dance and Acrobatics

Aerial Dance and Acrobatics

This is a type of modern dance, performed on special fabrics (silks) hanging from the ceiling.

It is a unique and complete exercise, through which children can learn to balance their bodies, strengthen their torsos, while gaining not only flexibility, endurance and concentration, but also courage, self-confidence, trust and a sense of absolute freedom.

The result is a greater concentration in everyday life through better time management.

In this workshop children will have the opportunity to learn the basic dance figures of aerial acrobatics (silks, hoop, trapeze, rope) in a specially designed safe environment.

Forum Theatre - socio-drama. (How our anxiety about what is happening today, is transformed through a theatrical presentation).

The children learn and experiment with characters, scripts, pantomime, and theatrical play that help develop their imagination, improvisation, and empathy.

 

The workshop lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes

First part (45 minutes): Selection of the topic. Creation of characters.

Second part (45 minutes): Performing.

Puppetry

Making of puppet show characters from recyclable materials (marionettes, hand puppets, giant puppets)

Development of spontaneous expression through creativity and collaboration.

 

The workshop lasts 1 hour and a half

First part (45 minutes): Selection of the theme, construction of the characters

Second part (45 minutes): Each group presents their performance.

Dance and Movement

This method of awakening the child with movement, is inspired by nature, different world traditions and free dance. It aims to help the harmonious development of the child, promote relaxation, sensory awakening and creativity.

Relaxation techniques, Do-In and massage play for children.

Exploring of instinctive resonance for children.

Managing children's emotions.

Free dance and mediating objects.

Exploration of colors, geometric shapes and the “dance of the alphabet".

Introduction to the rhythms of the body.

Dance of the five elements and creativity inspired by nature.

Approaching the psycho-symbolic dimension of the issues addressed.

Development of the child's psychomotor balance in a fun, creative way.

Development of the child's sensitive hearing through body language.

 

The workshop lasts 90-120 minutes and can be done in an open space for direct contact with nature.

Alternative Energy
and Technology

Introduction to the construction and function of alternative energy production.

Solar Energy (Electricity). Construction of a solar oven and solar combustion heater.

Kinetic Energy from Bicycle Dynamo. How we can have a supply sound and light via a bicycle.

Hydropower (water mill).

Children will come into contact with simulations of alternative energy infrastructures, learning about alternative energy through experiencing it (experiential learning).

Environment

Nature walks and acquaintance with local plants and animals in the area of Akrotiri (Chania, Crete), an area with a lot of natural beauty (wonderful beaches, paths, caves, etc.) that presents also historical and archaeological interest through its monuments.

Navigation (sailing, kayak).

Beach clean-up.

Creating Jewellery

In this workshop, children have the opportunity to use their imagination to make their own jewelry!

They can design and create with simple techniques ,bracelets or pendants, using materials like beads, cork, buttons, natural elements (shells, seeds, wood) and anything else they are inspired to use.

Children will be able to develop their dexterity and concentration, to be creative with the simplest materials, and learn to be comfortable using tools.

Constructing  their own personal creation increases self confidence!

Through musical examples we will see how accessible and creative free improvisation can be, both as an artistic and educational tool of communication and expression, between groups or individually.
